Aloha e Rep. Shimabukuro.

Mahalo for your inquiry. I am not a planner or engineer, so I hesitate to try to advise one of your constituents too specifically when it comes to commenting on our Draft Environmental Assessment for the proposed Learning Community in Makaha.

I have been told that the only official channel for commenting on the record is via the Office of Environmental Quality Control website - click HERE or copy and paste the following link:

http://hawaii.gov/health/environmental/oeqc/index.html/

Our Draft EA can be viewed HERE or copy and paste the following link:

http://oeqc.doh.hawaii.gov/Shared%20Documents/EA_and_EIS_Online_Library/Oahu/2010s/2010-05-08-OA-DEA-Residential-School-Makaha.pdf

I am not sure what happens to comments that are not submitted through this channel, but I am sure more information can be obtained by contacting oeqc@doh.hawaii.gov.

I hope this information is helpful to your constituent. If I can provide any other information on this or any other matter relating to Kamehameha Schools, please do not hesitate to contact me. Mahalo nui!

Subject: Question re: Proposed Makaha Valley Development

Aloha Mr. Paulsen:

As a follow up to your email below re: the draft EA for the proposed Makaha Valley development, a constituent asked what is the best way for the community to express their concerns/questions. He was particularly concerned with re-zoning, infrastructure, and related issues. I realize that KSBE is likely working with the LUC, Planning Commission, Department of Planning & Permitting, Office of Environmental Quality Control, etc. at this point as you prepare the draft EA.

Do you have any suggestions as to where I should direct residents who would like to express their concerns at this point (perhaps to one of the agencies I listed above)?

Mahalo, Maile
