Thank you for your kind words of support, but this was a team effort which involved the Department of Parks and Recreation, Department of Community Services, the Mayor’s Office and our partners in the social services field.
Regarding the unimproved area at Maili Point, that area is under the control of the Department of Parks and Recreation, however, is not considered a park and there are no signs indicating that it is a park, so HPD does not have the legal authority to enforce the No camping, night closure, no tents or shopping carts on this piece of land.
We have enforced other traffic violations, made arrest for liquor, drug and domestic violence offenses, but we do not have the legal power to remove or evict anyone from this property.
The Department of Parks and Recreation is working with the city Corporation Counsel on how to address the serious concern, and when a decision is made HPD will certainly take appropriate action.
Again, thank you for your support and we will continue to do the best we can to keep our beaches and parks safe and accessible to the public.

"Serving and Protecting with Aloha"
To: Moses, Michael K. S.
I am a homeowner in the subdivision of Sea Country off Kaukama. I am very pleased with the efforts from your dept. in cleaning the beaches of illegal campers and not allowing the cleaned beaches be reinfested.
I cannot express my feelings enough. A few years ago our whole side of the coast was a horrible toilet. You have brightened our lives tremendously.
However I have major concerns about the campers off kaukama rd. The people living on this unimproved beach park are a serious health and safety concern. You would not believe the hell that goes on down there.
Please find out who claims responsibility for this area and help us taxpaying lawabiding people live comfortably and safely in our homes.
I spoke to Officer Sam Scanlan this morning. He clearly is an asset to your team. I do understand that the Mayor and the City Council are the icing on the cake, but without your enforcement they would be nothing. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DONOT LET OUR BEACHES BE REINFESTED.
Again, thank you so much
