RALLY AT THE CAPITOL
STOP THE DESTRUCTION OF THE ONLY ACCREDITED COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER IN HAWAI`I
TUESDAY JUNE 24, 2008
9:30-11:30 AM
Clients, staff, and supporters of Hale Na'au Pono, the Waianae Coast Mental Health Center, will rally at the Capitol Tuesday, June 24. They will be arriving by buses to request a meeting with the Governor over the closing of their Case Management Services. They will also present the Governor with video-taped interviews with consumers describing the importance of Hale Na'au Pono in their lives.
Hale Na'au Pono has been serving the needs of the mentally ill on the Waianae Coast for over two decades as an autonomous, state-funded agency. The decision of the Department of Health to cut off funding for its largest program essentially means the end of the Center as we know it; this, in turn, threatens the health and safety of consumers and the Waianae community at large.
With our rally, we hope to call her attention to the scope and the seriousness of the state's actions against the Wai`anae Coast Mental Health Center.
For more information about the rally, please call Bernie or Alvina at Hale Na'au Pono (696-4211). For information about the content and issues, please contact Poka Laenui at 697-3045.
