On behalf of the William S. Richardson School of Law, we invite you to share your cause, at A SONG FOR OURSELVES, a benefit for the Chris Iijima Endowment, on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 24, 2009.
Honoring the legacy of APA artist, community activist and UH law professor, the late Chris Iijima, this event seeks to provide opportunities to engage with community activism in its many forms - protest, writing, visual art, education, environmental awareness, music, advocacy, teaching, and much more.
The day-long event includes:
1. Symposium & Panel | Creative Modern Activism | 4PM | FREE @ UH School of Law
2. Film Screening | A Song for Ourselves - Honolulu Premiere | 7PM
3. Live Performance | Bambu & DJ Phatrick of Native Guns, Power Struggle + Special Guests | 9PM
4. Film Screening & Live Performance @ NextDoor | 43 N Hotel Street | Chinatown | Honolulu Tickets | $10 students/the people | $30 lawyers/alum | $100 VIP
We would like to invite those of you working on social justice issues to send a represtantive, press kit, or materials to table at our Symposium. The goal is to provide a space for community activists such as yourself to recruit interested students and organizers for your cause. If you would be able to participate in the event, please RSVP to myself or to dejamarie@gmail.com with details on setting up representation for your cause.
If you are unable to participate by sending representatives, we invite you to participate in this event to honor Chris Iijima in other ways:
You can pariticipate in three ways:
1 | Community & student organizations can host tables that promote their cause and encourage action at the Creative Community Activism table event, from 3-5PM at the UH Law Campus (contact dejamarie@gmail.com)
2 | Local businesses can donate food, beverages, and services in-kind to the film screening & live performance (contact tcn@hawaii.edu)
3 | Community members can attend the event and of course, spread the word
(ticket information & more at www.iijimafundraiser.blogspot.com)
We hope you join us for this very special event and we look forward to seeing you there!
