  1. Welcome / Introductions

Setting Committee Goals, Objectives and Mission

    1. Goals – To identify issues and find resolutions to issues affecting the education of our keiki.

    1. Objectives – To see the community united in resolving the issues that affect education and to bring together organizations and businesses that will partner with us.

    1. Mission – To see that our keiki receive the best education from our schools.

  1. School Issues

A. Leihoku Elementary School - With the development of new housing projects in the area there is a big concern for classrooms for additional students and getting new teacher.

B. Wai’anae Elementary School

1. Student Enrollment – Concerns about the Medically Fragile Students that’s coming over from Kamaile Elementary next school year.

3. Facility Improvements / Repairs – Is there adequate rooms for the students coming over?

C. Kamaile Elementary School – The school will be a public charter school next school year.

1. Student Enrollment

2. Teacher Concerns – With the teachers leaving to retain their State positions will we have teacher for next school year.

3. Facility Improvements / Repairs – School is still short 5 acres of land needed for the school.

4. Parent/ Community Meeting

D. Makaha Elementary School – With the low student count they have, the school would like to see the school district revert to what is was in the past. This would increase the student count and help them retain their teachers.

1. Student Enrollment – Because student count is low the school would like to see the district lines changed back how it was.

E. Wai’anae Intermediate School

1. Student Enrollment - Projected lower amount of students next school year, which has the school worried that they will have to release some teachers. Parents are encouraged to register children as soon registration opens.

2. Teacher Concerns

3. Facility Improvements / Repairs - The school was allocated funds to renovate the school several years ago. But the money never got to the school. The school needs renovation funds to correct some unsafe building/classroom needs. The roofs leak when it rains which causes electrical shorts in the classroom lights and circuits. I hate to see the roof fall and hurt someone. Another building’s second story floor is starting to crumble.

F. Wai’anae High School – Funding to be released from the State to support the Teacher Mentoring Program.

4. Facility Improvements / Repairs – Funds for electrical upgrade for AC and fund to complete stadium bleachers.

Who is the Complex Area Superintendent for the newly formed Wai’anae Complex?

How do we go about re-districting our school districts to even out the student population?
