Donations/Volunteers Needed For Toys for Tots - Dec 6, 4-6pm, Waianae Civic Center

From: Panzo Michael (mp_96810@yahoo.com)
Subject: Toys for Tots at Paiolu Kaiaulu (Waianae Civic Center Emergeny Shelter) on December 06, 2008, 4 - 6pm

Dear Maile,

I would really appreciate if you could assist us. Donations are desperately needed, not to mention the help from individuals who might be able to make this a memorable nite for the children, such as entertainers, be it magicians, balloon blowers or musicians. We are also looking to get a large inflatable jumper the children could play in, game booths would work well.......

Any help would be appreciated, but time is short -- advice or possible contact leads would be welcomed. Please forward my name and number to those individuals interested in donating their time, games, rides, monetary donations, talents....anything, to me. My cell number is 457-6955.

Thank you again,
Michael Panzo

Additional Information from Paiolu Kaiaulu re: the 12/6/08 Toys for Tots Event:

Aloha Mr. Panzo, Rita asked me to update you with the count for adult and staff members by gender for our facility. The figures below are accurate as of today, November 17th; however, we have a few staff vacancies which need to be filled, and the client numbers will also fluctuate by December 6th. For instance, we have five room vacancies which more than likely will be filled this week, which will subsequently change our count for adult clients as well as for children. Our numbers are as follows:

Adult Clients: Female: 91, Male: 75
Staff Members: Female: 20, Male: 14

Sincere thanks for your interest in helping to make the holidays more special for our clients. Please do not hesitate to contact either Rita or myself if you have any questions.

Wai'anae Environmental Justice Working Group Meeting: Dec 12, 5pm

From: Kyle Kajihiro
Subject: SAVE THE DATE for the NEXT Wai'anae Environmental Justice Working Group Meeting

Aloha Kakou

Tonight's meeting focused mainly on the Wai'anae Environmental Justice fund, which was created out of fines paid by Waste Management for violations at Waimanalo Gulch. The community needs to come up with a proposal for a Supplemental Environmental Program that benefits the community environmental health and addresses or offsets the impacts of the Waimanalo Gulch landfill. Ideas we discussed included working to restore streams so that Wai'anae can regain its name (the water of the mullet). Another idea was to organize "bucket brigades" to sample air quality in affected areas. This would take on the high rates of asthma in Wai'anae. We need to finish and administer the community health survey obtain input for the proposal.

This is all on a very short time frame. PLEASE come to our next meeting: FRIDAY, DEC. 12 at 5:00 pm at the LCC Wai'anae office.
