NHIS Peforming Arts Program Opens to New Students

To any intermediate or high school student who is interested in acting, singing, and/or dancing, the Nanakuli High and Intermediate School Performing Arts Program may be for you. The program is accepting students for its Fall season. The program will accept anyone regardless of experience or ability, all you need is to be committed to the program. Everyone will have an opportunity to be on stage. The Fall season will include dramatic and musical productions.

The class runs every weekday from 4:00 to 6:00 pm and includes some evenings and weekends. Students may also qualify to receive an elective credit. If you are interested in the program, come to an orientation meeting on Thursday, August 7 at 3:30 pm or 6:30 pm in room MCR in which you and your parents can come to learn more about the program.

We will be accepting students up to August 22. For more information, call 668-5823, ext. 256.

Please be advised of our general meeting this Thursday August 14, 2008 at 6:30 p.m., Makaha Marketplace.

On the Agenda:
1. Farmers Market seems to be working. The Makahamangfestival will be on Sept 6 see makahamangofestival.com. We are co-sponsers.
2. The Makaha civic club is active with the adopting Lahilahi beach park and the neighborhood patrols. We need to support more. (ideas?)
3. Makaha market place as the gateway to MaKaha still struggles. Any ideas on how to assist?
4. Makaha community park improvements. No word from City Parks. Mark will follow up and report at general meeting.
5. Adopt of Highway Cleanup dates in Sept. and October.
6. Board elections are in November. Dave will be setting up a pallning seeeion in the coming month.

AARP Meetings in Wai`anae

The AARP meets the first Friday of every month at the Beach Club at the R & R Camp. We start gathering at 10AM and the meeting starts promptly at 10:30AM and ends at 12 noon. We most often have a speaker on an issue of interest. Lunch is available for $7.00 per person after the meeting.

We would love to extend an invitation to everyone on the Wai`anae Coast, but especially to our community members 50+. They could probably find things they need from us, but we certainly need them and welcome them and their ideas.

Rep. Shimabukuro Authors Successful AlohaCare Grant for Wai`anae Coast Pathway

Maile authored a successful $5000 AlohaCare Community Conscience Award to start a pathway along the Wai`anae Coast. Click here to read the award letter. The money will most likely be used for design plans for the pathway. Further work and monies will be needed to make the pathway a reality.
